As weeks go, this is shaping up to be a big one for Old Dominion: The five-man group recently learned that their single "Break Up With Him" hit No. 1; they will be heading to their first CMA Awards on Wednesday (Nov. 4); and on Friday (Nov. 6), they will be releasing their debut album, Meat and Candy.

"We got a text message at 6:30AM this morning saying we were No. 1, and this is how we’re celebrating," lead singer Matt Ramsey told The Boot during the 53rd annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on Monday night (Nov. 2).

As they prepare to attend the 2015 CMA Awards as a chart-topping band, the guys of Old Dominion agree that it feels entirely different than where they were one year ago.

"It’s a much bigger deal, it seems like," Ramsey says. "It’s a much bigger stage, much bigger audience. The songwriting community is so supportive of each other, and everyone is friends and supporting each other, but a lot of the outside world doesn’t know about it. But as an artist, you’ve got the songwriting community and the general public, so it’s all cool."

Adds bandmate Brad Tursi with a laugh, "There’s certainly a lot less explaining who you are."

However, earning No. 1 songs and going to awards shows pale in comparison to the release of their full-length debut, Old Dominion say.

"That’s a big deal for us," Ramsey acknowledges. "The awards ceremony is great, but our album drops on Friday, and it’s something to look forward to ... We’re pretty confident about it."
