It's been four months since Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton announced their divorce, and although Shelton now has a new lady in his life, Lambert admits that being divorced is still taking its toll on her -- and, at times, it really just sucks.

In the new issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, Lambert opens up about her former marriage, saying, "Marriage is a tough business, and we gave it our best college try" (quote via ET).

The singer explains that she's still processing what went down, and though this outcome is certainly not what she or Shelton had envisioned when they got married, it gave her perspective on love and romance.

"I had a great relationship with an amazing man," the 32-year-old says, "so I know what good is. I have a great launching pad for the future. I will never take that for granted."

However, Lambert is honest about the difficulty of moving forward.

"Some of that might mean nights on my porch crying, drinking whiskey and going, 'Man, this sucks right now,'" she explains.

The reigning CMA Awards Female Vocalist of the Year wrapped her 2015 Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour earlier this fall, and she's now taking some time off from the road until the spring. Still, that isn't stopping Lambert from getting onstage: She recently appeared at Ashley Monroe's Nashville show ... and there's been talk of the Pistol Annies reuniting.

"I feel the sexiest when I'm in my element, which is playing music," Lambert admits. "It doesn't really matter what I'm wearing necessarily or where I'm at, just on stage with my band playing music is sort of where I feel like I belong, and that makes me feel sexy."
