Luke Bryan can take at least a little credit for the recent nuptials of Thomas Rhett and Lauren Gregory. The groom's father, singer-songwriter Rhett Akins, says it was the country music superstar who supported the two 22-year-olds tying the knot.

"Everybody told him no, this is not what he should do -- except Luke," Rhett tells Country Weekly. "He called Luke three or four times and Luke was like, 'Buddy, if you're in love and you want to get married, then do it.' I think Luke was a huge part of Thomas Rhett going, 'Hey, I can do this.'"

The proud father believes that those who had their misgivings about the young love were able to put them to rest after the touching wedding ceremony. "When I saw them stare at each other the entire 20 minutes they were saying their vows, it's like these two people are meant to be together. They are beyond in love," he recalls. "Everybody there that had doubted or wondered if they were too young, all the doubts are gone now."

The "Beer With Jesus" singer has taken plenty of lessons from his famous father. "I have definitely learned a lot by watching my dad," Thomas tells The Boot. "I learned some things from him like making sure I put a lot of song titles in my phone when I think of them, and that I show up at a writing appointment being prepared. But I've kind of slacked off a lot on that one lately, because the people I write with, we kind of just hang for the first hour and hopefully a title falls out of the thin air. But my dad's biggest advice to me was 'you've got to write a hundred good songs to write one great one. There's no telling how many songs dad has written."

The newlyweds are currently enjoying a honeymoon in Hawaii, but they managed to get out the night after their wedding to see Rhett perform with his group the Peach Pickers. The trio, which also includes fellow tunesmiths Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, served as the opening act on Luke's eight-city Farm Tour, which wrapped up Oct. 13.

Thomas will have to enjoy married life on the road, as he serves as the opening act for Chris Young on his Liquid Neon tour, which kicks off on Nov. 15 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. See his upcoming shows here.
