June 23, 2017, will mark two years since Kacey Musgraves released her sophomore album, Pageant Material. The record includes the Top 30 hit "Biscuits," debuted at No. 1 on the charts and was nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards. While fans are eager for new music from Musgraves, she isn't in a hurry -- and also has another big life event that is competing for her attention.

"I don’t want to rush myself. I’ve taken time to get off the road, and I’m planning a wedding, so I’m busy with that," Musgraves tells The Boot. "I’ve got some songs, and I’m just kind of seeing where they go. I know I want to do something different and just feel inspired again."

That time off the road and away from the spotlight, Musgraves says, should help her figure out how she wants her next project to sound.

"It’s very hard to [be inspired] when you have shows to play, so I’m not playing as much as I’d like to this year," Musgraves notes. "There’s no way I could do both, so I have to sit at home and just get some new songs going."

Shortly before the release of her holiday album, A Very Kacey Christmas, in late 2016, Musgraves told The Boot that she wasn't sure what her next musical step would be. Then, though, she was at peace with that fact.

“I think it’s kind of an exciting thing to be uncertain creatively," Musgraves said at the time. "It kind of opens itself up to be down for whatever.”

Musgraves and boyfriend Ruston Kelly got engaged around Christmas in 2016. Although they are planning their wedding, they have not shared any additional details about the big day. A list of Musgraves' few upcoming shows is available on her website.
