Josh Turner’s Brooklyn, Ohio Show Helps Community Heal After Shocking Murders

Monday (June 4), Josh Turner made a special trip to Brooklyn, Ohio, to ease the pain of a community following a tragic shootout at a local Cracker Barrel that left a family of four dead. The country star performed to a packed parking lot and spent several hours signing autographs for fans.

"This is not my typical day," Josh said in a pre-show interview with The Plain Dealer newspaper. "I don't have a band with me, and I'm not here to sell records. God gave me a talent to sing and provide an opportunity to bring a community together."

Tragedy struck the small town in mid-April when a local man, Kevin Allen, killed his wife, Katie Allen, and their 10-year-old twin daughters, Kerri and Kayla, in the restaurant. He was then shot and killed by police.

Josh made the trek to Ohio this week to perform a four-song set and raise funds for the community. "All the money Cracker Barrel paid me to come up here, I'm donating to the Strongsville City Schools," he told the crowd, referring to the school district that both Kerri and Kayla attended.

He went on to say that on Monday, June 11, "100 percent" of the proceeds from both the local restaurant and merchandise sales would also be donated to the school district.

Josh is headed back to Nashville for CMA Music Fest, which he follows with the release of his fourth album, Punching Bag, out Tuesday (June 12).
