Jason Aldean Night Train Tour Presents Set-List Challenge
Jason Aldean recently announced he has added several stadium shows to his upcoming Night Train tour. For the entertainer, whose latest album topped the Billboard 200 with more than 409,000 copies sold in its first week, committing to such large venues is proof his career is moving in the right direction.
"I think that's one of those things that, if you get too far ahead of yourself, it's going to be easy to fall on your face a little bit," Jason told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "We don't want to go out and play stadiums just so we can go out and brag that we can play a stadium. That's not really the issue. But when we get to the point where we can sell out amphitheaters two nights in a row, that just tells us we can play a stadium. We tried it this year and it went really well, so I think this next year, we'll probably dabble in it a little more, try a couple places and really just try to build on that. There's not a lot of people who can do that on a consistent level and I think that's where we're trying to figure it out."
The country star is amazed at how far he has already come since his career began. "I remember the first time I sold out a bar," he recalls. "I was excited about that. You go out now, you're playing for 40,000 people. The view from the stage at something like that is pretty incredible. I could definitely get used to seeing that every night, for sure."
The singer, whose most recent hit, "Take a Little Ride," topped the charts, is already having a hard time deciding which songs he'll add to his set list for the upcoming trek.
"I never thought I'd get to the point in my career where I actually started to have to take out a couple of hits to put in some more, but I like it," he says. "Once ... people get to be familiar with some of the songs on [Night Train] we're going to definitely incorporate [new] stuff into the show."
Jason hints that fans might even get a longer show out of his band each night. "Whether that means taking out things that are in there now, or just extending the show and making the show longer to fit them all in, that's something we've got to figure out over the next couple months, and get ready for next year. That will be the telltale sign. I think it takes sitting down for a little while, looking at all the songs and fitting them in. If that means extending the show when we play for an hour and 45 minutes, two hours, then that's what we do. I don't know yet."
Jason recently announced the first three stops on the Night Train 2013 tour. He'll next take the stage Thursday (Nov. 1) as one of the performers during the CMA Awards telecast. He's also nominated for three awards, including Entertainer of the Year. The 46th Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
