For Jake Owen, his '8 Second Ride' music video was a glimpse into the future: Lacey Buchanan, the woman starring in the video, would later become his wife.

The couple first met when Buchanan appeared in '8 Second Ride' and began dating after she starred in Owen's 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night' video. Their family-only wedding ceremony took place on the beach in Owen's hometown of Vero Beach, Fla., and the couple was barefoot and beautiful, saying their vows as the sun rose over the ocean.

"That was my idea," Owen tells People, "because it's symbolic of the dawn of a new day and starting our new life together."

The singer is quite the romantic: He proposed to Buchanan at Vero Beach High School, his alma mater, after singing 'Don't Think I Can't Love You.' The proposal was spontaneous -- and he didn't yet have the ring.

"When I was onstage, it just hit me how many of our family members and friends were at the show," he says. "So I thought sharing that moment would mean a lot to everyone."

After they returned to Nashville, Owen proposed again, with a ring he designed himself.

"He gives me so much love," says Buchanan. "Having the commitment of marriage means everything."

They added their daughter, Pearl, to their family in 2012, but in August of 2015, Owen and Buchanan sadly announced their divorce, after three years of marriage.
