In August's installment of the Guest Room Sessions, Matt Gary offers up an impromptu version of his song “Back" ... on a golf course bench. Press play above to watch.

Country-pop singer Gary released “Back” to country radio back in April; the occasion prompted him to perform this stripped-down version of the song alongside his friend and fellow songwriter Jeff Middleton, formerly of the Dirt Drifters.

“Jeff is uber-talented and is out on the road with me,” Gary tells The Boot. “I elected to record it on the golf course ‘cause when I’m not out on the road, this is where you’ll find me, if I’m not on a boat!”

So, Gary and Middleton took a break on the tee at the seventh hole of Franklin, Tenn.’s Little Course at the Golf House of Tennessee. With blue skies and some fluffy white clouds overhead, the day was a perfect one to hit the links.

Gary, a Kansas-born songwriter, moved to Nashville in 2007, and is currently wrapping up production on a new EP titled Sleepwalker, on which “Back” appears. He’s also working on a full-length album -- his first -- which is set for release this fall; visit MattGary.com for more information on Gary's music and upcoming tour dates.

Beginning in September, The Boot's Guest Room Sessions will run twice a month, on the first and 15th. Be sure to check back then for a new clip!
