Hugh Masterson selected his heartfelt new song “Small Town" for July's new Guest Room Sessions clip, and brought special guest and frequent collaborator Brian Elmquist in for the video as well. Press play above to watch the pair's performance.

A Nashville-based troubadour, Masterson tells The Boot that he wrote “Small Town” shortly after moving to Music City; Elmquist, who is part of the band the Lone Below, helped co-write the track. The two recently spent a few weeks out on the road touring together, during which they filmed their Guest Room Sessions performance.

"When we got back to Nashville, we had our last show at the High Watt,” says Masterson. “After soundcheck, we sat down in the dressing room and recorded this video.”

“Small Town” appears on Masterson’s first effort as a solo artist, titled Lost + Found. The LP was released back in June, and stems from a traumatic mugging that Masterson experienced years ago in Milwaukee; during the incident, he was smashed in the head with a tire iron and had his jaw broken in two places.

Before moving to Nashville from his home state of Wisconsin, Masterson performed with a band called Hugh Bob and the Hustle, which broke up when he decided to head to Music City. Fans can learn more about Masterson’s Lost + Found and him as an artist on his website.
