Dwight Yoakam's performance on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' Thursday will go down in the history books. It marks his 24th appearance on the show, breaking the record for most musical performances by any artist on the late-night talk show. The former 'Tonight' record-holder is Yoakam's buddy, Lyle Lovett, with 23 appearances.

"Jay and I always joked about it," Yoakam says. "I guess Lyle and I have made a career of doing Jay's show."

Yoakam first appeared on 'The Tonight Show' back when it was hosted by Johnny Carson. That performance was just after Carson interviewed another record-breaker: a girl who blew the world's largest bubblegum bubble.
