Dolly Parton Cracks Presidential Jokes
Dolly Parton was in Washington, D.C. Tuesday at a National Press Club luncheon, where she discussed her role as an ambassador for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
"I happen to be from one of the most beautiful places on earth," she told the more than 300 attendees.
While in the nation's capital, Parton was naturally asked to offer her opinion on President Barack Obama.
"I think we've had enough boobs in the White House," she joked, "but hopefully Obama ain't gonna be one of them."
When asked if she thought the country would one day have a female president, Parton kept her audience laughing: "They might have a different approach to fighting the war on terrorism. Every 28 days, those terrorists better run deeper into them woods. That's all I can say if we get a woman in there."
On Tuesday evening, the tireless 63-year-old appeared at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., to preview songs from her new CD, 'Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of the Blue Smoke,' which will open as a musical at the Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. on May 9.
Although she's putting plans to expand Dollywood on hold because of the troubled economy, Parton is looking ahead to the Broadway debut of the musical version of '9 to 5,' set to open April 30. She's also working on a children's book, which will be released in June.
