Chris Stapleton will release his debut album as a solo artist this year. The hit songwriter, who has penned tunes for Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Luke Bryan, among others, will release 'Traveller' on May 5 on Mercury Records.

“This record was made standing on the shoulders of friends, family and heroes," Stapleton says in a press release. "I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I've enjoyed making it.”

Stapleton wrote or co-wrote 12 of the 14 songs on the album, which was recorded at RCA Studio A and produced by Dave Cobb. (A complete track listing is below.) He released his first single for Mercury, 'What Are You Listening To?' last year, although the track failed to make the final cut for the record.

“When Mercury approached me about making a record for them, I was really flattered and humbled, but it also made me do some real soul searching about the kind of record I would want to make,” Stapleton says. “My biggest wish is that people hear these songs and they are moved in some way ... that they are reminded of someone they love or someone they lost or even of themselves.”

The tunesmith has contributed more than 170 songs to other artists' albums. Adele, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley, among others, have cut Stapleton's tracks, and he's had five No. 1 hits, including Bryan's recent 'Drink a Beer.'

Stapleton will hit the road in March for a string of dates with Little Big Town, as part of their Pain Killer Tour, followed by a series of shows in May with Eric Church on his Outsiders World Tour. Keep track of all of his upcoming shows here.
