Brad Paisley’s Haiti Trip Pumps Clean Water Into Troubled Region
Brad Paisley and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, announced last year they were partnering with the Nashville charity, Live Beyond ... Thirst, to help provide clean water to impoverished parts of Haiti. Now, the country music superstar is offering hands-on assistance. The "Beat This Summer" singer is currently in the Caribbean island, to help install water pumps in areas still recovering from the tragic earthquake that hit the country in 2010.
"1 of our full service water stations in Haiti, complete with hillbilly water pump," he tweeted. "2nd of new water purification systems in Thomazeau Haiti! Thanks to LiveBeyond, these kids can drink clean water."
The Grand Ole Opry member is in Thomazeau, which is a small village just outside of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. He is joined for the trip by Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton and former Senate Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist, as well as the organization's founder, Dr. David Vanderpool. Their goal is to provide 100 clean-water collection sites in the community.
Brad said last year his dedication to the charity meant more to him than just writing a check. "We ask ourselves, 'Who can we feed?' he said to Nashville's Tennessean. "We have the means in Nashville to fix that entire region as far as water goes and not even feel it. Nashville is a very giving place and these are good people. If [Nashville] just knew about [the dire circumstances] and could just see it, they'd be like, 'We're going to take this and we're going to make it better.'"
Brad, who donated four cows to an African tribe in 2012, will soon release his new album, Wheelhouse, which includes guest appearances by LL Cool J, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels and others. The disc will hit shelves April 9. He has a series of shows scheduled to promote the new album, including stops in Indiana, Connecticut and Colorado. See a list of his upcoming shows here.
