Kenny Chesney, David Lee Murphy Win 2018 CMA Awards Musical Event of the Year
Congratulations to and David Lee Murphy and Kenny Chesney: Their song "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" is the 2018 CMA Awards Musical Event of the Year! This year's CMA Musical Event of the Year nominees also included Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osborne for "Burning Man," Maren Morris feat. Vince Gill for "Dear Hate," Jason Aldean feat. Miranda Lambert for "Drowns the Whiskey," and Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line for their "Meant to Be."
Good Morning America hosts Lara Spencer and Adam Rippon revealed Chesney and Murphy as 2018's CMA Musical Event of the Year winners live on Wednesday morning (Nov. 14), ahead of the evening's 2018 CMA Awards ceremony. They were broadcasting from the top of Bentley's Whiskey Row, a bar on Broadway in Nashville.
Murphy's big return, "Everything's Gonna Be Alright," is a song that aims to put everything into perspective: “You watch the news, and look around … it’s a tough world,” Murphy says in a press release. “You know, you can lean into all of that, or you can step back and trust life. When you do that, it makes it easier to take a deep breath and roll with everything that’s going on around you.”
“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” was written by Murphy, Chris Stevens and Jimmy Yeary, and appears on Murphy's No Zip Code album. The song is Murphy's first No. 1 since 1995's "Dust on the Bottle," and this is Murphy's first CMA Awards win.
