Brothers Osborne Score Vocal Duo of the Year at 2017 CMA Awards
Brothers Osborne have been named Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards. The pair was presented their award by Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush of beloved country duo Sugarland during the show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday (Nov. 8).
Before Nettles and Bush announced the brothers as the winners, they had an interesting exchange: They recalled every year they won Vocal Duo of the Year, and when they ended at their most recent win in 2011, there was a pause.
"Well ... who knows?" they hinted. Could there be a Sugarland reunion on the way?
Brothers TJ and John Osborne were all smiles as they accepted the award for the second year in a row.
"This is incredible y'all," said lead singer TJ. "Our oldest brother and sister tonight are here," he pointed out. "People asked us all the time what it meant to us to win a CMA award," TJ recalled, adding it's "hard" to answer that question.
"We've had a lot more money since since winning," he laughed, and on a serious note, said, "... It really opened my eyes to what matters most. Family and friends."
He passed the mic to his brother who said, "Lucie, I wish you were here ... I love all of you."
The duo had a busy 2017. They spent the summer opening shows for Chris Stapleton, and also won Vocal Duo of the Year and New Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2017 ACM Awards. They’ve enjoyed the continued success of their 2016 debut album, Pawn Shop, which spawned three Top 20 singles (one of which went platinum). A sophomore album is forthcoming from the talented siblings.
The other country duos nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards were Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, LoCash and Maddie & Tae.
