The Ameripolitan Music Awards will be back for a third year in 2016, and in addition to the announcement of this year's nominees, the awards' organizers have revealed some exciting changes.

The 2016 Ameripolitan Music Awards will crown male, female and group winners in categories for Western swing, honky-tonk, rockabilly and outlaw music. Categories also exist for the best Ameripolitan venue, festival, DJ and musician. A complete list of the categories and this year's nominees is available on the Ameripolitan Music Awards' website.

A new aspect of the Ameripolitan Music Awards experience for 2016 is a brand-new app, available for both iPhone and Android devices, that allows fans to vote in each category. It also gives users the opportunity to watch and listen to 30-second clips from the nominees.

“We love the irony of using a modern app for a genre of music with historic roots,” says Dale Watson, founder of the Ameripolitan Music Awards. "There’s a practicality to it, but the most exciting aspect is offering voters fresh, exciting content. It’s not just voting -- it’s an experience. Users can learn more about each nominee, discover new music and explore artists they might not otherwise know."

Although the app is available now, voting does not begin until Nov. 26; voting closes on Dec. 26. The 2016 Ameripolitan Music Awards are set to take place on Feb. 16, at 8PM at Austin's Paramount Theatre, with Ray Benson acting as host.
