Willie Nelson has been in his fair share of films, but his latest endeavor might be one of his most exciting. The country legend has joined the cast of Zoolander 2, the sequel to the 2001 hit starring Owen WilsonBen Stiller and others.

Nelson didn't need to audition for his role; rather, he was asked by Wilson himself to shoot a part for the film in Italy.

"Well, Owen and I are good buddies, and we stay pretty close in touch," the "It's All Going to Pot" singer tells Access Hollywood. "Woody [Harrelson] and all these folks – we hang out a lot in Maui.

"[Owen] is the one who asked me if I wanted to do it," Nelson adds. "I said, 'Let's do it.'"

In addition to Nelson, Wilson and Stiller, other stars on board for the movie include Will Ferrell, who had a role in the original Zoolander, and Billy Zane, who made a cameo in the first film, as well as Justin Bieber, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, Kristen Wiig and Penelope Cruz.

Zoolander 2 was announced at Paris Fashion Week in March, when Stiller and Wilson hilariously strutted down the catwalk as their characters, Derek Zoolander and Hansel, respectively, during the Maison Valentino show. The film will hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.

Nelson may be in his 80s, but he's the opposite of retired. He and fellow country star Merle Haggard just released a record, Django and Jimmieand Nelson is also launching his own line of marijuana-related products, starring in an upcoming fantasy adventure film and just released a memoir.
