Why We Dig Him: Ty should have no trouble with active duty in the world of country music. Before joining the ranks of aspiring country singers, he was a soldier with the Army National Guard, earning the rank of sergeant.

"I loved music my entire life, listening to it, singing in shows and in church," Ty says. "But I also always wanted to be a soldier. As fate would have it, the first week of my junior year in high school was September 11 2001, a day that changed our country and forever changed my life."

Shortly after the completion of basic training, Ty's Virginia based-unit mobilized to Iraq, where his tour lasted over a year.
