Hear Trent Harmon’s Debut Single, ‘There’s a Girl’
Trent Harmon earned himself millions of fans during his time on American Idol, and the Season 15 winner is ready to bring even more people onboard with his debut single, "There's a Girl." The track is set for release on Friday (June 24), and will officially go for adds beginning on July 18.
Harmon co-wrote "There's a Girl" with Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz. He tells The Boot that the three penned the tune the day of their very first meeting.
"I knew within five minutes -- we were quoting different movies and silly things -- that we were going to have fun," Harmon admits. "It was so easy to write the song because we did have fun. We realized we had written a good song."
Constantly singing for TV on Idol gave 25-year-old Harmon valuable performance experience, which is coming in handy as he readies his freshman album, which he describes as "country soul" and hopes to release this fall.
"It was really, really crazy at times. I had to dig deep," Harmon admits of the show. "Love, hate or be indifferent toward it, it really prepares you for a lot of things that you don’t know you’re going to be prepared for."
Idol judge and country music superstar Keith Urban in particular was a great mentor to Harmon during his time on the show.
"[It was] a little intimidating, especially knowing that now I’m working on a country album. But he’s a really sweet guy; I’ve enjoyed getting to know him," Harmon shares. "We would talk before and after shows. He’d say, ‘Hey, you did a good job,’ or ‘Hey, work on this.’ It was a lot of fun to work with him."
Harmon will debut "There's a Girl" on Fox & Friends on Friday morning, as part of their All-American Summer Concert Series. Harmon's song "Falling," written by Urban, along with Dallas Davidson and Brett James, is available for download on iTunes.
