Trace Adkins on New Album: ‘It’s Freaking Awesome’
Trace Adkins is starting the new year off with a new set of tunes. The singer, who signed with BBR Music Group in April and recently released a new single, "Jesus and Jones," says that his new record is perhaps his best album to date.
"It’s freaking awesome. It’s a good album," Adkins tells The Boot. "I spent the last couple years working on this, and there’s been no sense of urgency: Nobody’s been pushing me; we’ve taken our time. I’m really pleased with the way it turned out."
Adkins has written songs for his albums in the past, but his upcoming project doesn't include any self-penned tunes, despite the fact that the singer says he's written "a lot" of songs in the past year.
"Songwriter friends of mine here in town know when I’m cutting a new record, and they send me the stuff that they think would work on me," he explains, "and that process has been that way for the last almost 20 years now."
Adkins is also continuing to focus on his acting career, seeking out roles that put him in front of the camera.
"I just keep doing that stuff because I enjoy doing it; I get a kick out of it, I really do. I like being on set, whether it’s television or a movie or whatever," Adkins confesses. "One of my favorite things about the music business are those days when you’re in the studio, with those incredibly talented musicians, and that creativity thing is happening. It’s the same thing on a movie set: The whole place is just full of very talented, very creative people. I find it stimulating."
There is no word yet on when Adkins' new album will be released. "Jesus and Jones" is available for download on iTunes.
