Tim McGraw took the stage at the 2015 Oscars on Sunday night (Feb. 22), paying tribute to country legend Glen Campbell with an emotional and stunning version of Campbell's final song, "I'm Not Gonna Miss You."

With Campbell unable to perform due to his Alzheimer's disease, McGraw sat on a stool in the center of an empty, simply lit stage, crooning out Campbell's beautiful lyrics while dressed in a black tuxedo and cowboy hat. After he finished, to a rousing round of applause, the cameras panned to Campbell's wife Kim, who was visibly emotional.

"He's just a true artist," McGraw said of Campbell on the Oscars red carpet, prior to his performance. "The family's incredible, and the song is really special, and I'm honored to be here to do it."

"I'm Not Gonna Miss You," from the Glen Campbell ... I'll Be Me soundtrack, is nominated at the 2015 Oscars in the Original Song category. The category's other nominees are John Legend‘s "Glory" (from Selma); Tegan and Sara and the Lonely Island‘s "Everything is Awesome" (from The Lego Movie); Adam Levine‘s "Lost Stars" (from Begin Again) and Rita Ora‘s "Grateful" (from Beyond the Lights).

“We couldn’t think of anyone better than Tim McGraw to properly celebrate Oscar nominee Glen Campbell,” show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said when McGraw was announced as a performer. “Tim is the consummate country artist and will bring a bit of Nashville to the Oscars stage.”

Glen Campbell ... I'll Be Me chronicles Campbell's life and farewell tour after his 2011 Alzheimer's diagnosis. "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" was written by Campbell and songwriter and producer Julian Raymond as a farewell to Campbell's incredible country music career. The song recently took home Best Country Song at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

"We all love Glen so much," McGraw's wife Faith Hill added on the red carpet, "and it's such an honor to be here supporting him."
