Tim McGraw Hits No. 1, Sets a Record With ‘Humble & Kind’
Tim McGraw's "Humble & Kind" not only hit No. 1; it has also set a new record.
According to Billboard, "Humble & Kind" is the first song in four years to both hit No. 1 and have been written by only one person (Lori McKenna).
Though it may not sound that original, it is. It's the first Country Airplay No. 1 to be written by only one person since Taylor Swift's "Ours" hit the charts on March 31, 2012. Before that, Swift was again the record holder with "Sparks Fly" in November 2011. And before Swift, Shelton's "God Gave Me You" hit No. 1 and was written by Dave Barnes.
Even now, "Humble & Kind" is the only song with one songwriter on the current Country Airplay chart, which has 60 slots.
"Humble & Kind" is his 28th No. 1 hit on Country Airplay. Other country singers with a slew of No. 1 hits include Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and George Strait (all with 26) followed by Blake Shelton with 22.
Obviously the song has resonated with fans, and it was one McGraw knew he wanted to sing when he heard it.
“I just thought it was a song that needed to be heard,” he explained. “When you find a song that says something and a song that means something to you, those are always special. You have fun songs, and you have songs that you do because you like the feel and songs that you do because you like the lyric. But I feel a responsibility to do music, make music, that I’m proud of.”
