Thompson Square Celebrated With a Stranger the First Time They Heard Themselves on the Radio
Husband-and-wife country duo Thompson Square are embarking on a new chapter in their extensive musical career with their newest studio album, 2018's Masterpiece. The record is the first project that duo members Keifer and Shawna Thompson have released since splitting ways with their label and welcoming their first child, a son named Rigney Cooper Thompson, who was born in January of 2016.
While much has changed for the duo, they're no strangers to country radio. Over the course of their career, Thompson Square have produced 10 charting singles on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, even netting two No. 1 hits: "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You." Read on as Keifer Thompson recounts the very first time the two heard themselves playing on the radio, and how they ended up celebrating the occasion with one unsuspecting new friend.
It was in Spokane, Wash., in a parking lot outside a Guitar Center. It came on, and there was a woman parked a few rows over. It was kind of an empty lot, and we didn't have anybody to celebrate with, so I ran over to that lady's car and knocked on her window.
I yelled, "Turn the radio on! That's our song! Turn the radio on now!" She rolled down the window, and was like, "Okay!"
She turned it on, and we were listening to it, and she told us she thought it sounded good, and all of that. Come to find out, her last name is Thompson, too. Her husband was a guitar player, and he was in Guitar Center buying strings.
