Thomas Rhett Goes to No. 1 With ‘Make Me Wanna’
The third time is definitely a charm for Thomas Rhett. The singer has earned his third consecutive No. 1 hit with his latest single, "Make Me Wanna," which also marks his first time hitting the top spot as an artist and a songwriter.
The song is the fifth single from Rhett's freshman It Goes Like This album, and judging by Rhett's comments, it will also be the last single before he releases his sophomore record.
“This song is the perfect bridge between "It Goes Like This" and the new stuff we've been working on,” Rhett says. “So, this kind of support from country radio, my friends in the industry and the fans who have been relentlessly supporting me has got me really pumped for what’s next!”
The success of the tune was undoubtedly propelled by the song's video, which shows Rhett performing all kinds of crazy dance moves.
“Making this video put me a little outside my comfort zone,” he admits. “I wanted it to have a little swagger in a loose, fun way and reflect that sort of Bee Gees feel the song has. I’ve never claimed to be a dancer, but me and my band love to goof off on stage, especially to this song. I wanted the video to reflect that and let everyone know it’s okay to shake your hips a little bit.”
Rhett, who co-wrote eight of the 12 songs on It Goes Like This, has also written songs for several other artists, including Florida Georgia Line's "Round Here" and Jason Aldean's "1994," among others. And while it's certainly nice to be excelling at both singing and songwriting, the 24-year-old says writing will always be his first love.
“Whether I continue to have success as an artist or not, I will always write songs,” he says. “It doesn’t matter how busy my schedule gets, I will always make time to write songs ... I’m just really blessed and pumped to have success in both realms, and I hope that that continues."
Rhett is nominated for New Artist of the Year, along with Sam Hunt and Cole Swindell, at the upcoming 2015 ACM Awards. He is currently on the road with Florida Georgia Line for their 2015 Anything Goes Tour and will also perform several solo shows over the next few months.
