Sturgill Simpson will be making his long-awaited debut on Austin City Limits on Saturday (Oct. 17), but readers of The Boot are getting an exclusive first look at the singer's performance of "Time After All," from his 2013 High Top Mountain album.

Press play on the video above to see Simpson sing "Time After All," just one of the tunes from his seven-song set on ACL. His setlist also included the Osborne Brothers’ “Listening to the Rain” and T-Rex’s “The Motivator."

"This [episode] goes back deep to the roots of where Austin City Limits began,” says ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona. “Sturgill would've fit perfectly into the Austin music scene of the ‘70s, and it speaks volumes that his own progressive country sound resonates so strongly and stands in contrast to much of the country-pop today."

Simpson's performance on Austin City Limits is part of a successful year for the singer, who recently won two Americana Music Awards. However, he admits that his success has been bittersweet.

“I’m very grateful, but at the same time, I’m glad all this happened when I’m 36 instead of 26 because I — I’m just such a homebody, and I just want to write songs and make the best record that I can,” Simpson says. “All the press and the accolades and the attention, that’s not really my style, and it’s been a little [bit of] an adjustment. I find that I have to just kind of avoid the internet as much as possible. And even more so, when I go and look at it, I remember why I should be avoiding it.”

Simpson's performance will help kick off Season 41 of the acclaimed TV series. His ACL episode also features Asleep at the Wheel's 11th performance on the show; the recent Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductees will be joined by the Avett Brothers, Amos Lee and the Quebe Sisters in a special tribute to Bob Wills.

The Austin City Limits episode starring Simpson and Asleep at the Wheel is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 17 at 9PM ET on PBS; check the Austin City Limits website for local broadcast information. Immediately following the initial broadcast, the episode will be available for a limited time on PBS’ website.
