Country music may boast more than a few great musical duos, but it's not too often that a girl and a guy team up with such stellar results. There was Sugarland, there was Joey + Rory, and now there's Smithfield.

Born out of a childhood friendship in the heart of Texas, the duo Smithfield is the brainchild of Jennifer Fiedler and Trey Smith. Although the two old friends never planned on working together musically, when they finally did, the chemistry was instantaneous -- and so was the amazing music.

Combining Fiedler's love of traditional country music with Smith's penchant for rock 'n' roll, Smithfield are contributing a new sound to the bustling country music scene, and fans have already taken notice. After the duo lost their deal with Bigger Picture Music Group because of the label's closing, it was the fans who kept them afloat, even going so far as to fund their debut album through Kickstarter.

“We always credit our fans with helping us do our dreams because, at that point in time, we didn’t have any money,” Fiedler tells The Boot. “They essentially helped us make our project and our music.”

Since then, Smithfield have continued working to get their music heard, both through tireless touring and via radio singles such as 2015's "Good Ol’ Days," 2016's "Hey Whiskey" and their newest track, "Our World."
