Scotty McCreery Duets With His Mom at Easter Sunday Church Service [WATCH]
Scotty McCreery celebrated Easter Sunday (April 5) by singing a duet with a special lady in his life: his mom, Judy McCreery.
The country star and his mother performed at their home church, First Baptist Church of Garner in Garner, N.C., during an Easter service; the video of the performance, which you can watch above, was filmed by dad-slash-husband Michael McCreery. From the clip, it's clear that singing runs in the family; Judy McCreery has a gorgeous voice that blends effortlessly with her son's full, deep vocals.
The two sang "New Again," which Sara Evans and Brad Paisley recorded for the Passion of the Christ soundtrack. The song is emotional and touching, with the singers taking on the roles of Mary and Jesus, making it the perfect song for an Easter service.
The American Idol winner has always been vocal about his faith, even in his days on the singing competition show. McCreery was known to sport a cross necklace and told the audience, "I've got to thank the Lord first; He got me here." Even though he is young, at just 21 years of age, the "See You Tonight" singer is incredibly bold about what he believes.
"I'm not ashamed [of my faith], but I know that everyone doesn't agree with me," says McCreery. "I think especially in the country music world, if there's anyone that's going to accept it, it'll be them."
However, McCreery knows that his faith isn't welcomed with open arms by everyone, and he's realistic about that fact.
"When you're out there talking about your faith and what you believe in, you'll face some backlash," McCreery admits. "But mostly, I've received support."
McCreery is currently working on his next record, and he's planning for a more traditional country sound with a little more depth. Although the project is expected sometime in the third or fourth quarter of 2015, he's stayed relatively quiet about it -- but he is adamant that he and his team are taking their time.
"We’re not looking for a quick single,” he says. “Honestly, we’re starting at ground zero.”
