Mike + Ruthy (Michael Merenda and Ruthy Ungar Merenda of the Mammals) met and fell in love in the Big Apple, so the late Woody Guthrie's "My New York City" has special meaning to them. The married pair were personally invited by the folk legend's daughter, Nora, to finish and record the previously unrecorded song for a special four-CD collection of Guthrie's New York-themed tunes, My Name is New York.

"As our new melody notes and chords began to take shape, we became even more affected by the beauty of Woody's words," says Ruthy. "It sounds like he wrote the words for a loved one, but now, as we sing them, it feels like a song to Woody himself. It's a huge honor to sing this song."

My Name is New York celebrates what would have been Woody Guthrie's 100th birthday, this July 14. Other artists featured on the project include Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Woody's son, Arlo Guthrie.

Mike + Ruthy's "My New York City" is also included on the duo's new six-song collection, THE NYC EP. They shot the gorgeous video for the song earlier this year when Ruthy was pregnant with daughter Opal June, who was born June 5.
