On Saturday night, while Lauren Alaina's classmates were enjoying their junior prom, the 17-year-old Georgia native was far away, performing with Sugarland in Louisville, Ky. It seemed she would miss out on a major teenage rite of passage, but fortunately, she had a plan.

As Country Music Is Love reports, Lauren crashed the Lanesville High School prom, where she gave student Ian Herrington a night to remember.

"My first thought when we started talking was, 'Is this real?'" Ian told the website, explaining how he felt after spotting Lauren and deciding to say hello. "Am I actually having a conversation with Lauren Alaina?"

Indeed, he was, and when he asked the "American Idol" runner-up if she would sing a song, she agreed -- so long as he danced with her first. Not surprisingly, he agreed.

"While we were dancing I saw my friends Austin, Jack, and couple other people watching us dance while shaking there heads with a grin," Ian said. "I just smiled back. So I guess there was a little jealousy there."

As it turns out, Ian wasn't the only guy Lauren went cheek-to-cheek with that evening. Earlier, during her performance in Louisville, she invited a fan named Rob onstage to slow dance during her rendition of Lady Antebellum's "Dancin' Away With My Heart" (Watch a student's video of the performance below.)
