Story Behind the Song: Kip Moore, ‘Running for You’
"Running for You," Kip Moore's second single from his 2015 album Wild Ones, is one of the more personal songs that Moore has ever written and released. Co-penned by Moore, Blair Daly and Troy Verges, the song was inspired by a true-life relationship. With lines such as, "But if the rain starts falling, falling on you / And your heart starts breaking, breaking in two / If the light starts fading, baby, don't move / Just say my name, stay right there / I'll come running for you," the song is Moore's way of acknowledging his fondness for a former flame and his peace with how the relationship ended.
Below, Moore recalls for The Boot the sweet, and slightly tragic, inspiration behind "Running for You."
That song was originated kind of from someone that I’ve known for a long, long time -- and this was years and years and years ago -- knowing that I was coming to Nashville and going after this, and it was knowing that we knew we weren’t going to be able to hold together what we had at the time. It was her saying, "I want the best for you, regardless of what it is," and I wanted the best for her.
And I think that’s kind of where the song birthed from, was that thought. And then it kind of just took on the shape of different life experiences that I’ve had, and it was honestly singing about different things in my life, but it originated from that thought.
