Kelly Clarkson and her fiance, Brandon Blackstock, have called off their big wedding plans, but they're still getting married. In a new interview, the singer reveals they are now planning to elope.

Balancing both of their busy careers with planning a huge, formal wedding turned out to be too much for the couple. “We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope,’” Clarkson tells People. “We just got so overwhelmed by it -- all the decisions.”

The 31-year-old singer says that after they sent out an announcement, the wedding started to snowball, with details leaking and pressure mounting. “Then, honestly, the planning -- I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now … we have two kids who just started school," she adds. "We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]‘s got one of the biggest artists in country music. He’s flying everywhere.” Blackstock manages Blake Shelton.

In the end, they sent out an engagement photo to all of the invited guests, along with an explanation that the wedding would now consist of just Clarkson, Blackstock, his two children and a minister. The simple ceremony will allow the very public couple the chance to celebrate their special day in a more private setting.

“Our whole life is a celebration. That’s what we kept laughing about," Clarkson shares. "We don’t need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.’”
