Keith Urban's No. 1 Fuse album is only a year and a half old, but the singer has revealed that he is already hard at work on a new set of tunes.

"[I'm] just starting work on the next record," he tells Billboard. "I'm sort of doing the preliminary work of figuring out what the next record is. It's reaching out and talking with people about working with them in the studio, different writers. It's just lots of ideas and tinkering right now."

While some artists like to have a definitive plan before starting a record, the New Zealand-born star prefers to have a clean slate.

"I sort of like the unknowingness of it," Urban admits. "I get in the studio and don't know what we're gonna do, and that can be enlightening and sort of revelatory, or it can be incredibly frustrating."

Urban won't have much time to hit the studio for the next few months anyway. He is currently spending at least part of each week in Los Angeles, serving as a judge on American Idol, along with Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr., and this week, he'll jet back to Nashville to speak at the annual Country Radio Seminar (CRS). The tunesmith has been tapped as the event's featured speaker; he'll be part of a seminar titled "Keith Urban: Being Present."

While Urban isn't planning on embarking on a major tour over the next few months, he does have several dates on the calendar, including headlining the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival and Country Jam 2015. Both events are in June. Keep track of Urban's complete concert schedule here.
