Jason Aldean has sold more than three million albums, and recently scored three No. 1 smashes within eight months. Needless to say, he's been riding high on his breakout success this past year. But there's one other thing Jason has achieved that he's especially thrilled with. He's the first country artist ever to score a No. 1 hit on Billboard's all-genre Ringscan chart, with 'Big Green Tractor.'

And the icing on the cake is -- he beat Taylor Swift!

"I couldn't believe that we did something Taylor Swift hadn't done. That was, like, kickass!" Jason tells the Houston Chronicle with a laugh. "I'd be sitting at a restaurant or something, and all of a sudden, I'd hear my song. It was just amazing how many people had that song on their phone. It was a trip!"

Jason attributes the universal appeal of his music to identifying early on with his fan base, and staying true to that sound ... which he describes as "kind of like Guns N' Roses meets Hank Jr. ... and George Strait's hangin' around at the party, too!

"We always do things we feel represent what I do," Jason explains. "We've never tried to go in a completely different direction. You've got to figure out what it is that sets you apart from everybody else. I think that's just something we were able to lock in on.

"The types of songs we do -- some of them have been right down the middle, mainstream -- but most of them have been a little off-the-wall. They're a little more over-the-top than most country acts do. When you put it up against every other song that comes on the radio, it has a different sound. We've never been scared to try new things."

Jason's own iPod contains an array of different sounds, with tunes from Alabama, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Paramore, Jay-Z and Rihanna.
