Jason Aldean has earned the status of a superstar time and time again, yet he admits he'll always feel like he has "something to prove." Following his multi-platinum-selling, multi-award-winning My Kinda Party album, the singer's new album, Night Train debuted in the No. 1 slot and sold more than 400,000 units in its first week alone. Yet Jason says he isn't ready to let his guard down quite yet.

"Because of my struggles in this town when I first got here -- shot down by a lot of people and people not really believing in me early on -- it made me want to go out and prove myself," Jason told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "I don't feel like I need to do that on a daily basis, but I still want to. I still have that chip on my shoulder. I'm scared if I ever lose that, all of a sudden I'll lose part of what drives me and makes me want to prove people wrong. I do have that still, and hopefully I'll have that for the rest of my career. I think if I lose it, then I need to find something else to do for a living."

The 35-year-old country star will square off against his "The Only Way I Know" duet partners, Luke Bryan and Eric Church, this Sunday (Nov. 18) at the American Music Awards, as all are vying for Favorite Male Artist - Country.

"To be up for that award against my two boys, that's pretty funny," Jason laughs. "One year Luke and I were nominated, and he and I flew out there together and hung out -- it was the first time both of us had ever been nominated for it. It's exciting. Anytime you get nominated for anything like that ... you just never know when that part of your career is going to come to an end. You aren't going to get nominated for those things forever. I've never won one of those, and if Luke gets one before me I'm going to be pissed!"

We have a feeling that there will be plenty of post-awards show celebrating, regardless of who takes home the trophy. Jason will kick off his Night Train tour, which includes several stadium shows, on April 13 in Athens, Ga. Keep track of his concert schedule here.
