Jake Owen had some pretty big shoes to fill when he shared his covers of two of Garth Brooks' biggest hits, but he did it like a champ.

The Florida native sang Brooks' "Unanswered Prayers" and "Much Too Young (to Feel This Damn Old)" as part of the Bobby Bones Show's Joy Week, performing the songs as though they were written just for him. Both of Owen's covers can be heard at the bottom of this story.

"If you watch his sound check, like I do almost every day ... he'll be like, 'What do you think of this?'" the Cadillac Three's Jaren Johnston, who has toured with Owen, tells Rolling Stone Country. "And then he'll play a T.G. Sheppard song or a Merle Haggard song note for note. He'll sing every word and sound just like him. He's a genuine country artist. He is one of those guys who really did grow up listening to Merle and all these people."

Owen will have plenty of opportunities to show off his vocal abilities when he hits the road with Kenny Chesney, serving as an opening act on Chesney's upcoming 2015 Big Revival Tour, which kicks off on March 26 in Nashville, Tenn. A complete list of upcoming shows is available on Owen's website.

Of course, there's nothing like hearing the original artist sing his own hits, and thankfully, there's plenty of chances for that as well. Brooks will continue on his World Tour, also featuring his wife Trisha Yearwood, with shows in Denver, Colo., Sacramento, Calif., and Portland, Ore., currently scheduled.
