Watch Glen Campbell Jam With Keith Urban Back in 2009
Back in 2009, the legendary Glen Campbell joined Keith Urban onstage in Las Vegas, Nev., during Urban's Escape Together World Tour. Readers can press play above to watch the magic happen as the two perform Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" together.
During their performance, Campbell prefaced his and Urban's impromptu acoustic jam session with the story of their first meeting in Australia. At the time, Urban was still relatively unknown in the world of country music.
"I was in Australia -- this was quite a while back -- and there's this kid comes up and says, 'Oh, Mr. Campbell, blah blah blah,'" Campbell quips. "But anyway, to make a long story short, that was the first time that I met him, and I said, 'Practice, and, you know, learn your trade' -- do you remember that?"
"Oh yeah, I'm still doing it," Urban responds, receiving loud cheers from the crowd.
Years after that first meeting, when Urban won his first award in country music, he received an almost-immediate congratulations from Campbell.
"I got back to my hotel room and there was a fax on the floor: 'Welcome to the award-winning world, kid. You got it. Glen Campbell,'" Urban remembers on Facebook in a memorial post. "Universal music, universal stories, universal spirit. No wonder he was a global superstar. I love Glen for so many reasons -- but above all, for his humanity."
In 2011, shortly after Campbell announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Urban was chosen, along with Brad Paisley and Vince Gill, to perform a musical tribute to Campbell at the CMA Awards.
Campbell died Tuesday (Aug. 8) at the age of 81.
