Garth Brooks may not be in the running in any of the categories at the 2018 CMA Awards, but that doesn't mean he and his wife, country star Trisha Yearwood, don't intend to have a good time at the ceremony. In fact, Brooks originally had an idea for how to make this year's show especially memorable.

"There's a song we cut about two months ago. Me and the five guys and the engineer are the only ones that have heard it," Brooks recalled to The Boot at a recent media event. "It's a song about the strength of a woman, and for me, that's Trisha. I went to the CMAs and said, 'Let me sing that song to her that night. She hasn't heard it, and she won't until that moment. Nobody will.'"

However, the organization had other plans: "They came back and said, 'Hey, look, something new that's a ballad probably doesn't work for us,'" Brooks continues. "So, cool. I'll find some other way for her to hear it."

Even so, Brooks says he's expecting to have fun at the 2018 CMA Awards. "It's gonna be a great night," he says. "The fact that I'm not nominated for Entertainer is gonna make it a much more fun night for me, to just sit and relax and enjoy all the acts."

Brooks admits that, after all these years, being nominated at awards shows still makes him nervous. "I know it shouldn't -- for a guy my age, it shouldn't ride on me like this -- but it always does," he says. "So this is probably going to be my most enjoyable CMAs yet."

Plus, he adds, he'll be in excellent company: "I get to go with the love of my life and my best friend," Brooks relates. "We'll get all dressed up, and probably go to Taco Bell afterward."

The 2018 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 14, at 8PM ET; the ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host the ceremony for the 11th year in a row.
