Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard Stands Up for Gun Control Legislation on Social Media

Florida Georgia Line bandmate Tyler Hubbard turned to Instagram on Tuesday (Aug. 13) to speak out in support of greater gun control legislation in the form of universal background checks. In the caption for his post, the singer emphasized how important it was for people of all opinions and political backgrounds to get involved in the dialogue surrounding this controversial issue.

"I still believe this is an important conversation that we can't be afraid to have," Hubbard wrote. "Especially all of us who love our guns and want to protect our rights as Americans. Let's get uncomfortable, address this issue, and really make this country a safe place to live.

"If we want to put an end to gun violence, it has to start with us. We can make a change," he added. Along with his own thoughts, the singer shared a video in support of universal background check, which features gun-owners speaking out about why they're in favor of an increase in gun legislation.

Hubbard has been vocal about his views on gun control before. In December of 2018, he shared a video of himself talking about being a proud and responsible gun owner, and urging Congress to require universal background checks of all prospective gun buyers. At the time, the singer shared his support for TOMS' End Gun Violence Together campaign, an initiative that also received support from Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and others in the country music community.

A country-wide epidemic of mass shootings has led many country artists to speak out in support of gun control legislation. Recently, Kacey Musgraves called for lawmakers to take action during her August 2019 Lollapalooza set, where she led the crowd in a chant of "Somebody f--king do something!" Musgraves' response came following two mass shootings, one in El Paso, Texas on Aug. 3 and one in Dayton, Ohio on Aug. 4.
