Eric Church Says He Hasn’t Voted Since 2008, Is ‘Conflicted’ on Donald Trump’s Presidency So Far
During the 2016 presidential election, Eric Church opted not to vote. In fact, the country superstar says in a new interview that he hasn't voted since 2008, two elections ago.
"Hillary just bored me," Church tells Rolling Stone in a new interview, explaining his decision not to vote in the most recent election. And when his wife tried to sell him on Donald Trump? "Ain't gonna happen," he goes on to say. "I don't want to vote for somebody I'll regret voting for."
In 2008, Church says, he cast a ballot for the eventual winner, Barack Obama; however, as in 2016, he didn't participate in the 2012 election, but not because of any negative feelings for the president. Of the 2016 election, Church says that, had it been Trump vs. Bernie Sanders instead, he might have voted.
"I love Bernie. Bernie had a great message," he says. "It's funny: If it had been Bernie vs. Trump, I don't know what I would have done. I would've at least thought about it more than I did."
Country Music's Most Political Artists
In his interview with Rolling Stone, Church goes on to explain that he has mixed feelings about the Trump administration so far: "I'm conflicted," he admits.
"I like that he's thrown a monkey wrench into things. I think that chaos is good. I enjoyed the North Korea thing. Why haven't we talked to that guy?" Church says. "Tariffs, I don't know yet. I don't want a trade war, but I'll walk with him down that road a little farther."
Church isn't the only country star to voice an opinion on Trump's presidency recently: Willie Nelson has publicly spoken out against the president, even tweeting an invitation for Trump to join him at a border detention center to learn more about what happens there. However, others, such as Dolly Parton, have steered clear of politics altogether, knowing that the issues can be divisive to the country music community.
