Darius Rucker and More Artists to Perform ‘American Idol’ Finale
With Luke Bryan as one of this season's judges, country fans had good reason to hope that the star performances during the finale of American Idol might include some special guests from within the genre, and the lineup does not disappoint. Not only will Bryan himself be performing the finale, but Darius Rucker is also slotted to join the party, performing live on the show on May 21.
Beginning on Sunday (May 20), the two-night finale will also feature performances from Bryan's fellow judges Lionel Ritchie and Katy Perry, along with other artists including Bebe Rexha, the pop star whose cross-genre collaboration with country duo Florida Georgia Line, "Meant to Be," broke Billboard records earlier this year when it became the longest-running No. 1 single by a woman on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart since the chart's inception.
Rucker announced the performance via Twitter on Tuesday, along with the caption, "Y'all know this is gonna be a good time!"
It isn't the first time the country star has taken the Idol stage: In 2014, Rucker also performed the season finale of the televised singing competition, making an appearance to perform "True Believers," the title track of his 2013 studio album.
Fans can tune in on Monday evening (5/21) to watch Rucker's performance, and watch the show's final three contestants - Gabby Barrett, Maddie Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson - vie for the title of this year's Idol. The finale will be broadcast on ABC at 9PM EST.
