Cody Canada is preparing to release his first solo album, and he's letting readers of The Boot hear a track early via this exclusive song premiere.

'Record Exec' is a track from ‘Some Old, Some New, Maybe a Cover or Two.' The two-disc,19-song project features new acoustic renditions of songs that span the Red Dirt legend's entire career, first with Cross Canadian Ragweed, and more recently with the Departed.

The song was inspired by legendary Nashville music executive Tony Brown. At the time, he was the head of Cross Canadian Ragweed's label.

"I had told Tony Brown, the head of Universal South, that he could help produce the record 'Garage'. He ended up telling us that he only wanted to work on the song 'This Time Around,'" Canada recalls.

"When he finished, it was only my vocal on the track and not us playing. I told him that this would kill everything we worked hard for. He finally agreed to add everything back except the harmonica. We never got into an argument, but he thought I was mad and said this story would make a good song.....and it did. I love that dude. I miss him."

‘Some Old, Some New, Maybe a Cover or Two' is set for release on Nov. 19. It is currently available for pre-order.
