Review: Chris Young Plays RodeoHouston [PICTURES]
Chris Young made his fourth RodeoHouston appearance on Wednesday night (March 22), in front of a crowd of more than 65,000 people.
Young jumping right into three songs at the beginning of his set, then addressed the large Texas crowd: "My name is Chris Young, this is my fourth time being out here for this, and every time, you blow my mind."
Before the opening notes of one of his most well-known songs, "Who I am With You," started to play, Young admitted that his choice to stand off of the spinning RodeoHouston platform might be a little frowned upon: "I don't know if this is allowed," he said, "but we are going to attempt it." The crowd, however, seemed to love his plan to show the whole arena some love; when the singer asked the crowd to put their phones in the air, the stage was illuminated by the literal thousands of lights that fans were waving.
Without Cassadee Pope in attendance, Young once again asked the audience to get involved by filling in for the singer during their hit duet, "Think of You." Fans obliged, naturally, and joined Young with great enthusiasm.
Young shifted gears for "Aw Naw," taking a break from cool-hued stage lighting and instead using reds and oranges to match the song's country rock vibes. From there, Young again switched up the show's mood and played the somber "Sober Saturday Night,".
"You guys are the reason why I am here, [why] I get to do this for a living, getting up every day and getting to sing," Young told the RodeoHouston crowd before starting "Sober Saturday Night." His set also included "Tomorrow" and "I'm Comin' Over," among others.
Young recently played the 2017 Country 2 Country Festival in Europe, and will headline the 2017 Headwaters Country Jam this summer. RodeoHouston 2017, which runs throughout March, features a star-studded concert lineup, including Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Chris Stapleton and more; additional information can be found on the rodeo's official website.
