Carrie Underwood and Mike FisherNews of Carrie Underwood's engagement spread like wildfire, causing the singer and her fiancé (professional hockey player Mike Fisher) to race against the clock to tell their friends and family.

"The night it happened, we had to call everybody quickly," Carrie tells the Calgary Sun, "We knew the news would get out pretty quick, and within two hours someone had texted Mike and it was like, 'Yeah, your little secret is out.'"

The story, which first broke when a friend of Mike's leaked it on Twitter, was quickly confirmed by the NHL star a few hours later.

The couple, who have enjoyed spending the last few weeks celebrating the holidays together, are bracing themselves for what lies ahead. "The first few years are going to be difficult with his job," Carrie acknowledges. "He's stationed here [Ottawa] and it seems that this past year when I've had time off they've had away games, so I've been really lucky over the holidays that they've been at home."

One thing the country superstar is looking forward to is a family -- just not any time soon. "Kids are great [but] I don't want them now. I couldn't imagine," Carrie says. "We have friends with four kids and I think, 'I admire you, but I don't think so!'"

When they do start their family though, the future Mrs. Fisher plans on passing on her healthy lifestyle to her children. "Mike and I will work out together. It's just fun and I know that no matter what, we'll both be around for a long time and we'll teach our kids good, healthy habits."

Carrie, who is nominated for two Grammys and two People's Choice Awards this month, will be making her wedding plans while on the road with her Play On tour, along with opening acts Sons of Sylvia and Craig Morgan.
