Blake Shelton Rails Against Ex in ‘She’s Got a Way With Words’ [LISTEN]
Blake Shelton's record If I'm Honest hits the streets on Friday (May 20), but lyrics to the track "She's Got a Way With Words" have been revealed -- and boy, does Shelton shoot straight in the song. It's about a bad breakup, and the lyrics are, in one word, fierce.
ET categorized Shelton's new songs in several categories, and "She's Got a Way With Words" is from "The Breakup Songs" category. ET shared lyrics from the song, and though Shelton didn't write it, he's said before that the songs on If I'm Honest "tell the truth about what happened."
The first verse begins, "When you put two and two together / You figure out love's got four letters / I should of known that when I met her / But she had to spell it out for me."
“She put the her in hurt / She put the why in try / She put the S.O.B. in sober / She put the hang in hangover / She put the ex in sex / She put the low in blow / She put a big F.U. in my future / Yeah, she’s got a way / She’s got a way with words," he sings in the chorus of "She Got a Way With Words." Ouch.
Other songs in the breakup category include "Bet You Still Think About Me," which is sweet and sentimental ("I think about you, you were always wild and free / I know we couldn’t hold on forever, but baby / I bet you still think about me") and "Every Time I Hear That Song" ("All I ever wanted was you and me / We were crying, we were wasted / We were dying when they played it"). It goes without saying that those have less bite than "She's Got a Way With Words."
The 15-track record is Shelton's first record since his divorce from Miranda Lambert in July of 2015. The singer jokes that the project was almost called 12 Months and Holy Crap and says, "I figured, since everybody else is cashing in on my life, I might as well as get some of that, too."
