Blake SheltonBlake Shelton admits he can sometimes hold a grudge -- at least when it comes to fellow country star Jake Owen.

"I do want to talk about Jake because I'm mad at him right now," Blake tells Country Countdown. "Somebody sent me a song that Jake wrote. And so I said, 'I gotta have this! I'm gonna record this song for my album.'"

Problem was, by the time Blake decided he wanted it, the song was no longer available.

"I was ready to give it to him, "Jake concedes, but he didn't have the final say. "The guys at the label loved the song and they wanted to record it, so I ended up having to call Blake back and say, 'Man, I'm sorry, I'm going to record it.'"

Blake, who admits he was disappointed to not be able to record the song for his upcoming album, says he got the ultimate revenge on Jake, when the song ended up not making it on Jake's album either.

"Three months ago, Jake Owen was calling me going, 'Hey man, if you still want that song for your album. ...' And I said, 'No sir, I don't need it for my album. I don't want it anymore.' ... So I think I got even with Jake, and that's not easy to do. That's what you get, Jake!" he says with a laugh.

The unidentified song may never see the light of day, but Jake says it was still worth it. "It was pretty flattering when Blake called me and asked me for that song," he admits. "When he's making a record he always calls me and asks me if I've got any songs for him that I've written. It means a lot to me because he's a great songwriter. Just to think that he thinks that much of my songs makes me pretty good as a songwriter."

Both Blake and Jake are climbing up the charts. Blake's current single is the hit duet with Trace Adkins, 'Hillbilly Bone,' while Jake is a few slots ahead of him with his self-penned 'Eight Second Ride.'
