Aubrie Sellers had plans to go to the Borderline Bar & Grill on Wednesday (Nov. 7), the night that a gunman opened fire in the country club, killing 12 people. The up-and-coming artist, who is the daughter of Lee Ann Womack and ex-husband Jason Sellers, changed her mind at the last minute.

"Last night we were going to go line dancing at 9:30PM at a bar called Borderline we heard about in Thousand Oaks," Sellers tweeted on Thursday morning (Nov. 8). "An hour before we were to leave, I got home and [my cat] Laney’s eye was swollen shut, so we didn’t go."

Twelve people are dead following the Wednesday night shooting. The Borderline Bar & Grill was hosting "college country night" when a tall, white male, dressed in all black, entered and began shooting around 11:20PM local time; the shooter, 28-year-old Ian David Long, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Long was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and although his motive is not known at the time of publication, he was known to police due to past minor infractions.

"[There were] minor events, a traffic collision. He was a victim of a battery at a local bar in 2015," Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean explains. "In April of this year, deputies were called to his house for a subject disturbing. They went to the house, they talked to him. He was somewhat irate. Acting a little irrationally. They called out our crisis intervention team, our mental health specialists, who met with him, talked to him and cleared him. Didn't feel he was qualified to be taken under 5150. And he was left at that scene last April."

Some of those in attendance were also at the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in October 2017. Nicholas Champion tells CBS that he and "probably 50 or 60 others who were in the building at the same time as me tonight" were also at the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nev., at which 58 people died when a gunman opened fire on the crowd from the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel.

"My heart goes out to everyone affected by what happened last night," Sellers tells Taste of Country. "It's important to realize how anyone in this country could be in this position at any moment and to keep empathy in our hearts and minds when trying to figure out how to best prevent this from happening in the future."
