Alex Hall, ‘Half Past You’ Music Video [Exclusive Premiere]
Country up-and-comer Alex Hall is premiering the music video for his debut single, "Half Past You," exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch the clip, which will recall a familiar scene for anyone who's gone through a recent breakup.
Hall's "Half Past You" video is set in a space designed to look like a living room, with Hall trying to stave off the urge to text his ex-love by playing a little guitar, pacing around the room and incessantly checking his phone. Ultimately, by the end of the song, however, he decides to make that phone call, ill-advised though it may be.
"I know in my heart that it's way too soon, but dialing your number is what my fingers do," Hall sings on the chorus. "I shouldn't have called, I know it's half past two / But I'm drunk, and I guess I'm only half past you."
According to Hall, "Half Past You" is a particularly special song because it's his first major-label release. "It will always be special to me because it's my first on Monument Records," Hall tells The Boot.
"We wrote this song for the album because I didn't have an acoustic, breezy song yet, and I felt like that was something that was missing," he adds. "After that, it took on a life of its own."
At the ripe old age of 23, Hall is already a music industry veteran. A Georgia native, he began playing shows in high school — as many as 125 per year! — after first picking up the guitar at the age of 14. Hall counts Elvis Presley, John Mayer, Eric Church and Keith Urban among his influences, and is currently in the studio working on his debut album alongside powerhouse Nashville songwriter Shane McAnally.
