The 2016 awards season kicked off on Wednesday night (Jan. 6) with the 2016 People's Choice Awards. Country music's presence at the show was limited -- no country acts performed, and none of the trophies in the PCAs' country categories were presented during the broadcast ceremony -- but a few country artists still picked up awards from the event.

Blake Shelton earned Favorite Male Country Artist, while Carrie Underwood received Favorite Female Country Artist, and Lady Antebellum were named Favorite Country Group. Additionally, The Voice -- on which Shelton is a coach -- picked up Favorite Competition TV show for the third year in a row.

Luke Bryan was nominated for the all-genre Favorite Male Artist award, but he lost out to Ed Sheeran. Country-turned-pop superstar Taylor Swift won Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Pop Artist -- two of the four awards for which she was nominated. Meanwhile, Steven Tyler lost Favorite Music Icon to Madonna.
