Danny GokeyDanny Gokey is the latest in a long line of celebrities stepping up to help those recovering from the flood that devastated Nashville earlier this month. Using his charity, Sophia's Heart (named after his late wife), the generous star has opened a relief center to offer assistance in a practical way.

"There are people in need and we have to look past ourselves," he tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "If there's one thing I learned growing up as a boy in church, it's that if you take care of someone else God will take care of you."

The center, located in the heart of Nashville, offers flood victims the opportunity stop by to pick up supplies, including food, linens, clothing and other household items free of charge.

Danny isn't the only 'American Idol' alum to step up in the wake of the devastation. Season four winner Carrie Underwood is partnering with the ACM's Lifting Lives foundation to offer funding for a special charity for flood victims. The ACM Lifting Lives Temporary Home Foundation, named after Carrie's No. 1 single, will offer financial support to various relief efforts already in place in Middle Tennessee.

Among the many artists who have made generous contributions to help in the recovery process are Vince Gill, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, just to name a few.

Danny is currently on the road in support of his debut album, 'My Best Days.'
