The hits just keep on coming for Trace Adkins. After a year that includes a long string of woes, his wife of 16 years, Rhonda, has filed for divorce.

According to Nashville's WSMV, Rhonda filed papers in Tennessee on Tuesday (March 25), citing irreconcilable differences. She is asking for primary custody of the couple's three daughters, and for Adkins to pay child support, alimony and her legal fees.

The news comes after a devastating year for Adkins that began with a trip to rehab after he fell off the wagon while headlining the Country Cruising music event. He departed rehab early to be with his father, who fell ill and subsequently passed away in February.

Trace and Rhonda met while she was working as a publicist at Arista Records.

“She’s my secret weapon,” Trace said in 2012. “It’s almost unfair the advantage I have over all these other guys, having her in my corner. I don’t do anything hardly in this business without talking to her first. I really don’t.”

Neither Trace nor Rhonda has commented publicly on their divorce.
